Veteran’s Day Commemorated at TEACH PDF Print E-mail

U.S. history classes had the opportunity to visit with U.S. Army veteran, Major Raymond E. Schumacher, Retired, on Wednesday, November 11th in commemoration of Veteran’s Day. Mr. Schumacher shared with students his experiences from his time in Germany in the 1960s during the Cuban Missile Crisis and  his two tours of duty in Vietnam in 1967 and 1969.

What a great learning opportunity for students to experience history through the eyes of someone who lived it. Students asked numerous questions about what Mr. Schumacher did and how he felt about it. .Mr. Schumacher, because of his willingness to share in such a meaningful way, gave students a rare glimpse into the life of a soldier. Our sincere thank you goes out to Mr. Schumacher, of Reinhardt College, for spending his Veteran’s Day with us and helping us understand why we recognize the contributions and sacrifices of U.S. servicemen and women on that day.
