Last week, TEACH students learned and celebrated what it meant to be drug, alcohol, and tobacco free. All week, students had the opportunity pledge to be drug free. In addition, a lot of fun activities were planned. Lunch classes created drug free door decorations and competed for a pizza party, which Mr. Parlak’s lunch class won! During lunch one day, Mrs. Davidson hosted drug trivia where students received candy for answering correctly.
Last Thursday, Alpharetta Police brought a K-9 dog named Robby and demonstrated his responsibilities and how important he is to the police force. We observed Robby listen to every command, get some treats, and also how he reacts if he or other people are in danger. To conclude the week, we hosted the Too Cool to be a Fool Drug Free Assembly. We packed into the cafeteria and watched the Stellar Stallions Dance Club debut performance and Michael Penna, the winner of the talent show, play the guitar. We also had very special guests come to talk to our students about the effects of doing drugs. Officer Ritchie from Alpharetta Police talked to students about marijuana and gave out some gift cards to students who displayed knowledge in the topic area. Officer Scott touched on the subject of Alcohol and presented a very realistic video that shows how bad decisions can affect their lives, their family, and their friends. Both officers shared some experiences they’ve had with young people who are taken too soon because of a choice that they made. We hope that students take these messages seriously and helps them to think twice before they do something that can change the course of their entire life.
