Last weekend we had a great time at the Turkish Festival. Visitors from all over Georgia packed the Gwinnett Convention Center to watch marvelous shows of rich Turkish culture. The food was awesome and the shows were spectacular. Mehter Band, thought to be the world’s oldest military band, had back to back shows. World renowned Turkish composer/singer Omer Faruk Tekbilek mystified the festival with his music.
An instrumental group from Mardin, the ancient city where the first Christians settled after running away from Roman oppression, put on a great authentic show, enriched by an ancient church choir.
In addition to the spectacular shows, there were many booths showcasing unique Turkish cultural artifacts and events. Our students enjoyed this eclectic and authentic cultural event, even dressing as pashas and viziers. It was a great time for all!
